John Galliano, bad-boy, rock-star fashion designer is putting his name on a perfume. Like many perfumes, it is inspired by a memory of a particular place and time. This time was no doubt crucial to his formative fashion sense and later successful career. It is available at Harrods for £42. I’m guessing it’s a scent that can be worn by men or women.
Are you a fan of Galliano’s fashions? Will you flock to buy the scent? It certainly sounds interesting.
In fact, it’s a theatrical, but not a melodramatic scent. A powdery mix of iris, rose and violet, with a nostalgic hint of old make-up compacts and dusty dressing tables. Galliano described the ideas behind the perfume whilst wandering round his studio ( a former doll factory complete with bamboo garden.) He said it captured the smell of powder and greasepaint at the National Theatre where he worked while a student at Saint Martin’s College, as well as the slightly singed, metallic odour in the atelier caused by ironing linen. The nose behind the scent, Christine Nagel, recreated this steam sensation using a molecule called sclarene, the powdery effect is suggested by iris, violet and aldehydes, the latter of which also suggests effervescence ( perhaps evoking the ubiquitous fashion party champagne.) White rose, patchouli and yes incense, also feature. Unlike in the typical pyramid formation of many perfumes, these elements intermingle as a melange, rather like the eclectic inspirations behind Galliano’s clothing collections.

Halle had a baby, and now she is giving birth to a perfume! I’m wondering if it will be out for the holiday season? I really like Halle and her style, she’s quite a classy lady and I look forward to seeing how her perfume does in the already saturated market of celebrity perfumes. Of course, she’s got a lot of name recognition and is widely popular so I am sure she’ll fare well.
Halle by Halle Berry took the star two years to develop, and will feature her favorite scents including mimosa and fig.
“Because my name is on it, it was really important that it be something that I chose that I love, and it was a special time in my life to do something like this,” she added.
“In this industry, I have learned early on not to feel a sense of competition,” she said. “I run my race looking forward with blinders on. You can never compare yourself to somebody else. Somebody else’s success is theirs.”

Released in 1996 this is a must-try for those who love fig scents. I don’t know what it is about the fig but it does make a lovely perfumery note. It is initially quite heady - the sweetness of the fig with floral/green notes in the background, but it calms down to a lovely herbal/woody base with the fig leaves still in focus. I do get the coconut, but not the pepper notes that some reviewers mention. The lasting power is impressive for such a simple perfume. To my nose it is slightly “dated” just because it was so popular a few years ago, but I suppose that just proves how scents can be tied to memories.
NowSmellThis certainly loves it, Sakecat is a bit more indifferent. You can try a sample at The Perfumed Court, or just spring for the entire bottle, $85 at Beautyhabit.

Honestly, I had no idea their perfume/cologne range has been so popular and so profitable. But then again, why would celebrities continue launching scents if they didn’t make beaucoups bucks? I’m kind of proud of her for not being ashamed of her millions. Hopefully they’re doing some good with it. She’s pals with Brangelina, right?
VICTORIA and DAVID BECKHAM’s fragrance range has netted the pair a staggering $202 million (GBP109 million).
The former Spice Girl and soccer ace husband David have a series of scents for men and women, named Intimately Beckham.
And the Wannabe hitmaker is thrilled that the fragrances are such a success - because she has worked so hard to make them popular.
She says, “And we’ve just had some great news from our fragrance business - it’s now worth GBP109 million at retail, and we haven’t even scratched the surface in America with that yet - that’s not including my jeans or sunglasses range.
“I feel proud of myself because I’ve worked for it and, let’s face it, I don’t have to.”

I have not got the official deets on this, but here is some info I found. The bottle looks cute but the picture of Paris in the wings and weird bikini is kind of freaky. Actually the ribbon/ballet slippers are the freakiest.
Paris channels her inner fairy with her new fragrance that’s launching next month.
The perfume, called Fairy Dust, is her fifth scent she’s launched. Can you believe there are four other Paris perfumes floating around out there? The new ads are all about an ethereal-looking Paris, includes sparkling prosecco accord, pink peony, orange blossom, spring gardenia, water lily, peach nectar, sueded patchouli, cashmere musk and vanilla cream.
Neil Katz of Parlux Fragrances (the company that holds the Paris Hilton fragrance license) noted that “Everybody hates Paris, but she is on the front page.”
That seems like a bold statement to come from someone on her team! And we’re not sure people really hate her anymore. They’ve kind of moved on to Lindsay Lohan. The perfume is available in department stores next month.

Jennifer Lopez (she of the triathlon and the skeletal hubby and the twins) has launched her latest fragrance. It’s been a while since the multiple incarnations of J.Lo’s perfumes came out, starting with Glow, which is coincidentally having its fifth birthday as we speak? It either seems like it’s been way longer than that or not possibly that long. Anyway, then there was Miami Glow, Live, Still, and now, Deseo.
Did you know her husband is only 40 years old? He looks about twice her age. It’s no surprise, then, that she appears in the men’s cologne ad with a random male model instead of her creepy cadaver. It’s probably going to turn out that Marc Antony has terminal cancer or AIDS and that’s why he’s so skinny, but seriously. Feed that man some menudo and get meat on his bones.
Fragrance Deseo by Jennifer Lopez is inspired by her garden. She invited her associates from Coty to walk at night through her beautiful kingdom and capture the divine smell into a uncut diamond like shaped bottle.
The fragrance was created by Ellen A. Molner and Jim Krivda from Coty. It comes as 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 100ml (3.4 fl.oz.) EDP.
The top notes bring the accords of bamboo leaf waving on the Italian breeze, Sicilian bergamot, yuzu, and charming, intensely flowery freesia notes. The heart beats with notes of star jasmine, pink gardenia, orange blossom and French mimosa. The base brings notes of musk, sandalwood, amber, oakmoss, Atlas cedar and patchouli.
Deseo for Men by Jennifer Lopez is a fragrance for men. Deseo for Men is a new fragrance and it was introduced in 2008. The noses behind this fragrance are Ellen Molner and Jim Krivda. Top notes are yuzu, cedar, red berries and lemon; middle notes are tobacco leaf, orris root and guaiac wood; base notes are sandalwood, amber, patchouli and vanilla.

No more paying $$$ for dubious decants on e-bay: DK Chaos is coming back to shelves. It’s perhaps more beloved due to the scarcity than the scent, but now we can all smell it for ourselves. Some 12 years after its release it will return to Bergdorf Goodman along with several other back-catalogue fragrances! Hooray! For the record the new Chaos is “not the same but very very close” according to one intrepid nose. Compared to the hundreds of dollars for a vintage bottle the BG price is downright palatable. The other scents that are returning are: DK Signature, Fuel for Men, Black Cashmere, and the Essence Collection: Lavender, Jasmine, Labdanum, Wenge. I for one am quite excited for all perfume fans!

This scent is a very good “gateway” into niche perfumes. It’s not common, it’s not easy, but it’s interesting and wearable by many, provided the notes are something to your liking. NowSmellThis lists the notes as: bergamot, angelica, iris, hawthorn, jasmine, honey, carnation, heliotrope, caramel and musk. It’s the heliotrope or angelica notes, along with the powdery carnation, that give it a comforting clean-ness, like baby powder or baby shampoo, and the caramel and musk make this what equates to a very expensive skin scent. If you really want to impress your perfume-loving sweetie with an unexpected gift, this might be a good place to start. Just make sure he or she doesn’t already own it! Or try a sample for yourself at The Perfumed Court.
I would also be remiss if I did not mention that Jean-Claude Ellena created this as a tribute to Apres l’Ondee by Guerlain.

everything at Isle of Eden is still 46% off with the spookywitch46 discount code.
Plus, shipping is still $5.00 right now! The code is supposed to change soon, so go ahead and get your orders in before the discount drops. If you order now it’ll probably be ready for the holidays. Probably.
